On Monday (November 15, 2021), Rex announced the addition of Brisbane to their domestic network with twice daily service between Melbourne and Brisbane starting December 17, 2021. The new service is the carrier’s fifth capital city destination and part of their goal to service the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Monday’s announcement coincides with Rex’s reopening of their domestic network from Melbourne to Sydney and Canberra, with the resumption of Sydney-Canberra, Sydney-Port Macquarie and Sydney-Coffs Harbour flights. The Melbourne-Brisbane route will operate twice-daily on weekdays and return service on both Saturdays and Sundays. To celebrate the route launch, Rex is offering special fares from $79 until November 30th, for travel up to April 30, 2022, without Christmas holiday blackout dates.

In Monday’s announcement, Rex’s Deputy Chairman, the Hon. John Sharp AM, said,

“All of our launch flights to new destinations have proved to be enormously popular and I have no doubt Brisbane will be the same, particularly with such affordable fares. Rex is a full service airline so these fares represent incredible value. Unlike our competitors, Rex passengers don’t get slugged with hidden or extra costs as all fares on our domestic jet network include free 23kg checked baggage and refreshments on board.”

In a separate announcement on Wednesday (November 17, 2021), Rex announced the launch of three weekly flights between Brisbane and Sydney starting December 20, 2022. Triple-daily service on the route will be offered on weekdays, while double-daily flights will be offered on weekends. Rex is offering special fares from $69 on Brisbane flights until November 30th, for travel up to April 30, 2022, without Christmas holiday blackout dates.

Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional and domestic airline. The carrier operates a fleet of 60 Saab 340s and six Boeing 737-800NGs, serving 61 destinations throughout all Australian states. The Rex Group also includes wholly-owned subsidiaries Pel-Air Aviation (an airfreight aeromedical and charter operator) as well as two pilot academies, Australia Airline Pilot Academy in Wagga Wagga and Ballarat.
