Rex has taken delivery of another Boeing 737-800NG on lease expanding their growing jet fleet to six aircraft. The aircraft, registration VH-RYU, touched down in Sydney after emerging from the lessor’s paint facility, adorned in the Rex livery.

On Thursday (April 22, 2021), Rex announced the delivery of their sixth Boeing 737-800NG on lease. The 737, registration VH-RYU, touched down in Sydney after leaving the lessor’s paint facility where it received the distinctive Rex livery. The aircraft will soon enter service on the carrier’s domestic network, which now spans Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Canberra. Rex expects to take delivery of an additional two aircraft in July and hopes to further expand their Boeing 737-800NG fleet by the end of the year.
In Thursday’s announcement, Rex’s Deputy Chairman, the Honorable John Sharp AM, said,
“We have almost daily requests from major cities all over Australia for Rex’s services and we will work with all airports that are prepared to establish a good partnership with us. We welcome expression of interests from all major cities as we are determined to bring our unique premium reliable services at affordable fares to the four corners of Australia delivered with our trademark country hospitality.”
Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional and domestic airline. The carrier operates a fleet of 60 Saab 340s and Six Boeing 737-800NGs to 62 destinations throughout all Australian states. The Rex Group also includes wholly-owned subsidiaries Pel-Air Aviation (an airfreight aeromedical and charter operator) as well as two pilot academies, Australia Airline Pilot Academy in Wagga Wagga and Ballarat.
