Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive H.E. Mr. Akbar Al Baker to Step Down After 27 Years of Service

Effective November 5, 2023, Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Ala Baker will step down after 27 years of illustrious service. He will be succeeded by Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.

On Monday (October 23, 2024), Qatar Airways announced that the Group’s Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker will step down on November 5, 2023, after an illustrious 27 year career. He will be succeeded as Group Chief Executive by Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. Under H.E. Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways has become one of the most recognizable and trusted brands globally and has developed a reputation for the highest of standards and excellence in customer service.


Multi award-winning Qatar Airways is the national carrier of the State of Qatar and currently serves over 160 global destinations from their hub in Doha, Qatar. The airline has been named ‘Airline of the Year’ for an unprecedented seven times at the World Airline Awards managed by Skytrax.
