Qatar Airways and American Airlines Partnership Starts With U.S. Codeshare on Over 1,000 flights

Qatar Airways announced on Tuesday the beginning of their partnership with American Airlines which was announced last February. The partnership starts with the rollout of a U.S. domestic codeshare with Qatar Airways’ code placed on over 1,000 domestic American Airlines’ flights.

Today, Qatar Airways announced the beginning of their strategic partnership with American Airlines which was announced late last February. The first stage of the partnership will see Qatar Airways’ code placed on over 1,000 domestic U.S. flights operated by American Airlines. The codeshare will be rolled out over the next few weeks and will connect Qatar Airways’ 10 U.S. gateways with American’s domestic network, strengthening connectivity and creating hundreds of new travel option for guests. During the first phases of the codeshare, Qatar Airways’ guests will be able to book extensive American Airlines connections via Chicago (ORD) and Dallas (DFW) to 200 cities including Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Seattle and San Francisco. Additional connections to Central America and the Caribbean will be added, subject to regulatory approvals. In Tuesday’s announcement, Qatar Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Simon Talling-Smith said,


“This codeshare is just the first step in renewing our long-term strategic partnership with American Airlines. The rollout of this domestic codeshare demonstrates our airlines are confident about the future and during this difficult time we continue to focus on how we can enhance the customer experience of our millions of passengers. As two of the strongest airlines in the world, I have no doubt that we will overcome the current challenge and be well positioned to continue providing our passengers the reliable, safe and award-winning service they have come to trust from us.”


Also commenting on today’s announcement, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Network Strategy, Vasu Raja added,


“We are pleased that we’ve reached this important milestone with Qatar Airways. We look forward to welcoming Qatar Airways passengers throughout our domestic network as we continue to focus on the well-being of our customers, team members and the communities we serve during this uncertain time. This is just the beginning of a strong partnership and we have a very bright future ahead of us.”


As the partnership expands, Qatar Airways will place their code on American’s international flights throughout the Americas and Europe, and American Airlines placing their code on Qatar Airways’ flights between the U.S. and Qatar and beyond to the Middle-East, Africa and Asia. The carriers continue to explore several joint operational and commercial initiatives, as well as the opportunity for American Airlines to operate flights between the U.S. and Qatar.


Celebrated and award-winning Qatar Airways was named the ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the 2019 World Airline Awards managed by Skytrax. The carrier was also named ‘Best Airline in the Middle East,’ ‘World’s Best Business Class’ and awarded the title for ‘Best Business Class Seat.’ Qatar Airways is the only airline ever to have received the prestigious “Skytrax Airline of the Year” title five times. The national carrier of the State of Qatar, Qatar Airways normally serves over 170 global destinations with a fleet of more than 250 modern aircraft. The airline’s primary hub is located at Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, Qatar. Currently, Qatar Airways operates around 150 scheduled weekly flights to over 30 destinations, which the carrier expects to expand to 80 destinations by the end of June 2020.
