On Thursday (May 29, 2025), Qantas announced that QantasLink will launch new direct service from Perth to Newcastle and Hobart from September 2025.  The new route between Perth and Newcastle will operate three times per week, supporting fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) workers and mining customers with direct air service into Western Australia.  The direct Perth-Hobart route will be resumed for the first time since 2023, and will also operate three times weekly during most months.  Both routes will offer customers enhanced connectivity with Perth, and one-stop connections to a range of Qantas International destinations, including London, Paris, and seasonal service to Rome.  The new flights will be operated with a 150-seat QantasLink Airbus A319, with introductory one-way fares from $299 (T&Cs apply).

In Thursday’s announcement, QantasLink’s CEO, Rachel Yangoyan, said,

“We’re really proud to continue our support for Western Australia’s resource and tourism sectors, with our newest QantasLink routes linking Perth to Hobart once more and Perth to Newcastle for the first time.  These direct services will not only boost inbound visitors to WA but offer more opportunities for those working in the resource sectors across the country with improved options for their travel.”

Also commenting on the launch of the new routes, Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer, Kate Holsgrove, said,

“Perth Airport has worked in partnership with Qantas, Newcastle Airport, Destination NSW, Hobart Airport, Tourism Tasmania and Tourism WA to grow aviation connections into Perth, boosting tourism and trade and supporting economic development.  The introduction of new domestic services shows Qantas Group’s commitment to Western Australia and growing its network into Perth Airport, Australia’s western gateway.

“The new routes will provide a convenient option for both business and leisure travellers.  It’s great news for Australia’s tourism industry as the services will promote increased visitation to Western Australia from New South Wales and Tasmania and will also provide a direct link for Western Australians wanting to discover Tasmania and northern NSW.”

The Perth-Newcastle route will start on September 8, 2025, and will operate on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, while the Perth-Hobart route will commence on September 26th, and will operate year-round on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, with the exception of May, June and August.  As previously mentioned, both routes will operate with a 150-seat A319 with onboard meals and checked bags included.  Additionally, the aircraft are equipped with Qantas Entertainment app systems, enabling guests to watch content on their own devices.  Inflight Wi-Fi is not available on these aircraft.
