On Wednesday (April 20, 2022), Qantas announced the launch of new seasonal service between Adelaide and Albury. The route will operate twice weekly from July 8th through September 25, 2022 and will be service with a 50-seat Bombardier Q300 turboprop (DHC Dash 8-300). The new service will be the only connection between South Australia and Albury, thereby saving travelers over three hours on a return flight compared to flight options via Sydney or Melbourne. Additionally, the route opens up a gateway to the closest snowfields for South Australians such as Falls Creek and Hotham in Victoria. With the new route, Albury now has Qantas connections to four capital cities for the first time, including Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.

In Wednesday’s announcment, QantasLink’s CEO, John Gissing, said,

“A new capital city route is fantastic news for Albury which is quickly becoming one of our most connected regional centres. The direct flights to Adelaide and increased Brisbane services will create stronger connections for business travellers and also make it easier for interstate visitors to experience all that the Albury-Wodonga region has to offer. This seasonal service will open up a new gateway to some of Victoria’s premier snow resorts, Hotham and Falls Creek, making them more accessible than ever for South Australians looking for a ski holiday.”

Qantas is also increasing flights between Albury and Brisbane from seven to 10 per week due to strong demand since the reopening of Queensland’s border late last year. Celebrating the launch of the seasonal Adelaide-Albury route, Qantas is offering special one-way fares from $179 through April 22, 2022. Guests traveling on the route will also enjoy complimentary food and drinks, baggage, and lounge access in Adelaide. Additionally, ski and snowboard equipment can be included within the checked baggage allowance.
