Today (July 19, 2022), at the 2022 Farnborough International Airshow, Embraer announced that Porter Airlines has ordered an additional 20 Embraer E195-E2 jets, adding to their existing firm order of 30 of the aircraft type. The new order is valued at $1.56 billion at list prices. In total, Porter has ordered up to 100 E195-E2s, with 50 firm commitments and 50 additional purchase rights. In 2021, the carrier ordered 30 Embraer E195-E2s, with options for 50 more, a deal worth $5.82 billion at list with all options exercised. The aircraft can accommodate between 120 and 146 passengers, and Porter will announce their configuration plans at a later date.

In Tuesday’s announcment, Porter Airlines’ President and CEO, Michael Deluce, said,

“Embraer has a proven aircraft, representing the best of environmental efficiency, operating performance and passenger comfort. We are in final preparations to introduce the E195-E2 to North America, joining other global airlines already benefiting from its use. The aircraft will become core to our fleet, as Porter reshapes passenger expectations for air travel in the same way we did over 15 years ago. Announcements are forthcoming that will detail our initial routes, in-flight product and other details.

“The GTF-powered E195-E2 is the right choice for Porter, our passengers and the cities we intend to serve with it throughout North America. GTF engines help make this aircraft the quietest, most efficient, most sustainable single-aisle jet available today. This combination will help us grow our network with a great passenger experience, while being responsible to the communities we serve.”

Also commenting on the new order, Embraer’s President and CEO, Arjan Meijer, added,

“Porter Airlines’ ambition for growth while delivering an upgraded passenger experience is set to shake up the industry in North America. With 50 E2s now on firm order, Porter is set to make a stunning debut as North American launch customer for the E195-E2. Their commitment today to a further 20 jets, so soon after their first order, demonstrates the unbeatable performance and economics of the E2 family: the quietest and most fuel-efficient aircraft in the segment. The E195-E2 also delivers 25% lower carbon emissions than previous generation aircraft.”

Porter Airlines will be the North American Launch customer for the Embraer E195-E2. The carrier plans on deploying the new jets on routes to leisure and business destinations throughout Canada, the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean from Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and Toronto Pearson International Airport. Deliveries and entry into passenger revenue service will commence during the second half of 2022.

Porter’s new Embraer E195-E2s will be powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, the exclusive engine for the E-Jets E2 Family. GTF engines deliver industry-leading sustainability benefits, mature dispatch reliability and world-class operating costs. The engines provide a reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 25 percent per seat, as well a 75% reduction in noise footprint and a 50% reduction in NOx emissions below the ICAO CAEP/6 regulation. The engines are currently certified to run on up to 50 percent SAF, and have been successfully tested with 100 percent sustainable aviation fuel.

In a separate announcment on Porter’s new order for GTF-powered E195-E2s, Pratt & Whitney’s President of Commercial Engines, Rick Deurloo, said,

“Porter is known for operating the quietest, most efficient, most environmentally friendly aircraft available today. With the GTF-powered E195-E2, Porter better serves a greater number of families, friends and colleagues who are now able to get to their destinations in a cleaner, greener, quieter and more affordable way.”
