On Tuesday (January 10, 2023), PLAY Airlines announced the launch of new daily service to Toronto-Hamilton International Airport (YHM) in Canada from June 22, 2023. Toronto will become the carrier’s fifth North American destination, and the route will offer connections to/from 15 European destinations. Toronto-Hamilton International Airport is a small and convenient airport offering easy navigation and affordable transportation to and from the city. Toronto is the largest city in Canada and a multicultural hub with a population of around eight million. Over 140 languages are spoken in the cosmopolitan city, which is known for its excellent food culture and a wide range of shopping opportunities, from elite fashion houses to charming boutiques.
In Tuesday’s route announcement, PLAY’s CEO, Birgir Jónsson, said,
“I have been eagerly anticipating the launch of ticket sales for flights to Canada, as it will be a major market for us at PLAY. Our services in North America have been met with great success, and I am excited to be able to offer more people the opportunity to travel between North America, Iceland, and Europe at affordable prices.”
Founded in 2019 by Arnar Magnússon and launched in June 2021, PLAY is a new Iceland-based low-cost carrier (LCC) which operates flights between Iceland and Europe, as well as to North America. The carrier’s core motto is ‘pay Less PLAY more’, meaning that the airline’s customers spend less on airfare and more while enjoying their holiday destination. PLAY’s fleet of Airbus A320neos and A321neos currently connect customers to around 30 European and U.S. destinations. In 2023, Play will expand their fleet of Airbus A320/321neos to 10 aircraft, and increase their network to nearly 40 destinations.
