Last Thursday (June 4, 2020), Pegasus Airlines announced the relaunch of domestic flights with service on 39 domestic routes to 27 destinations in Turkey. The carrier’s first domestic flight resumed on June 1st, with service from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Pegasus Airlines’ flights had been suspended since March 28, 2020 due to travel restrictions resulting from the global COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning June 4, 2020, Pegasus resumed service from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen to Antalya, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Bodrum, Trabzon, Van, Dalaman, Kayseri, Gaziantep, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Gazipaşa, Hatay, Konya, Malatya, Samsun, Muş, Ordu-Giresun, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Erzurum, Batman, Erzincan, Mardin and Kars. From Izmir, Pegasus also relaunched flights to Adana, Ankara, Mardin, Elazığ, Kayseri, Samsun and Trabzon; as well as from Adana to Trabzon, Antalya, Bodrum and Van. The carrier also relaunched service from Ankara to Antalya and Bodrum. In Thursday’s announcement, Pegasus Airlines’ CEO, Mehmet T. Nane, said in part,

“We are really pleased to be relaunching our flights following this temporary suspension as part of the restrictions put in place to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. It has only been our flights, not us, which have stopped during this uncertain time, which has seemed to us like years rather than months. We have continued to receive delivery of our new aircraft, enhanced our processes, and prepared for the new period ahead. We have worked continuously fore the days when we would be reunited with our guests. We are therefore delighted to have relaunched our domestic flights after this period of restrictions, with a schedule of 39 routes to 27 destinations as of 4 June. In the next phase we will also gradually increase our schedule to include further domestic routes, as well as restarting our international flights.”

Mr. Nane continued to explain that only guests with an HES code, developed by the Turkish Ministry of Health will be permitted to fly domestically. Additionally, guests will be required to wear masks at the airport and onboard. Temperature checks will also be performed at the airport and all Pegasus team members at check-in counters will be wearing visors. For the health and well-being of team members and guests, Pegasus has implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures on their aircraft, which are also fitted with high-efficiency HEPA filters that remove over 99 percent of viruses, bacteria and particulates from the cabin air.
