Lufthansa to Reactivate Some Airbus A380s From Summer 2023

Due to increasing post-pandemic customer demand and the delayed delayed delivery of some ordered aircraft, Lufthansa will reactivate some of their Airbus A380 aircraft from summer 2023. The carrier is currently assessing the number to reactivate and routes.

On Monday (June 27, 2022), Lufthansa announced that due to robust post-pandemic demand and the delay of some ordered aircraft deliveries, they will reactivate some of their Airbus A380s From summer 2023. The number of aircraft to be reactivated and what destinations will be serviced by the super-jumbo aircraft is currently being assessed. Lufthansa has 14 Airbus A380s in their fleet which are parked in Spain and France for long-term storage. Of those aircraft, six have already been sold and the other eight remain part of the airline’s fleet for the time being

The A380 reactivation was also announced by the Executive Board Members of Deutsche Lufthansa AG in a joint letter to customers which stated,


“In the summer of 2023, we not only expect to have a much more reliable air transport system worldwide. We will be welcoming you back on board our Airbus A380s, too. We decided today to put the A380, which continues to enjoy great popularity, back into service at Lufthansa in summer 2023. In addition to this, we are further strengthening and modernizing our fleets with some 50 new Airbus A350, Boeing 787 and Boeing 777-9 long-haul aircraft and more than 60 new Airbus A320/321s in the next three years alone.”

The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest passenger aircraft at 73 meters long and 24 meters high. Lufthansa’s double-decker super jumbos have been configured to accommodate up to 509 passengers.
