On Monday (January 25, 2021), Lufthansa announced that they have partnered with dean&david and Dallmayr for a new, high-quality, fresh and sustainable catering concept. Last fall, the airline announced they would soon be offering Economy Class guests a range of high-quality food and beverages for purchase on short and medium-haul flights. Lufthansa has now selected dean&david, a young gastronomy company from Munich, as their latest catering partner. The company represents freshness, quality and a sense of responsibility for healthy food, high-quality ingredients, sustainable nutrition and environmentally friendly packaging. The culinary offer will be available on flights of at least 60 minutes.

In Monday’s announcement, Lufthansa Group Executive Board Member – Customer, IT & Corporate Responsibility, Christina Foerster, said,

"Our partners dean&david and Dallmayr represent outstanding quality and responsible action. In addition to the satisfaction of our guests, the topic of responsibility for the environment is also very important to us. We use almost exclusively sustainable materials for our packaging. Furthermore, we ensure that less food is wasted through more accurate production. We are pleased to be able to offer our passengers fresh products on European flights that taste delicious."

Gate Gourmet, Lufthansa’s new main European caterer will prepare fresh daily essential assortment components such as salads, bowls, wraps and sandwiches according to dean&david recipes. The new menu includes a salmon avocado bowl, falafel tahini salad, crunchy chicken bowl and sweet chili chicken sandwich as well as a freshly made Birchermuesli. Additionally, there will be the ‘Best of dean&david Boxes’ with a fine selection from the dean&david assortment. The menu will also be complemented by cake specialties and snacks from other manufacturers such as vegetable crisps. Prices for meals and snacks will range from between two and 12 Euros and the range of fresh products will be updated every three months.

For hot beverages as well as confectionery and patisserie specialties, Lufthansa will expand their long-standing partnership with the traditional Munich-based company, Dallmayr. One highlight of the selection is the Dano coffee project, which is named for the cultivation region in Ethiopia. Through this project, Dallmayr supports local people in the region such as building a school and establishing a coffee co-op. Dallmayr’s range is complemented by various organic teas such as Alpine Herbs and First Flush Darjeeling, as well as chocolate milk and chocolates from the company’s praline factory and a selection of cake specialties in cooperation with Gate Gourmet.

A large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase, with, for example, a bottle of tomato or orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate and tea for three Euros. The carrier will also a complimentary bottle of water and small chocolate surprise. The new food and beverage offer will be available on short and medium-haul flights during the airline’s summer 2021 timetable and orders will be placed directly onboard.
