On Wednesday (December 2, 2020), the Lufthansa Group announced the appointment of Dr. Stefan Kreuzpainter as the new Head of Sales from January 1st, 2021. Dr. Kreuzpainter will also join the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), where he will be responsible for Lufthansa’s Munich hub. In the future, Dr. Kreuzpainter will also be responsible for station and cabin crew management as well as the sustainable development of the Munich hub, in partnership with Munich Airport.

Dr. Stefan Kreuzpainter joined Lufthansa in 2003 as Network Manager in Frankfurt and three years later moved to Revenue Management at the carrier’s Munich hub. In 2010, Dr. Kreuzpainter became Head of Division and in 2012 took over sales management of all Lufthansa Group airlines in Madrid for the Spanish and Portuguese markets. Next, he moved to Brussels Airlines as Vice President Pricing, Revenue Management & Distribution. In May 2017, Dr. Kreuzpainter returned to Group Headquarters as the Group’s Vice President Sales – Europe, Middle East and Africa. Dr. Kreuzpainter studied International Management at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands and received his doctorate from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland in 2003.

Kreuzpainter will succeed Heike Birlenbach as Head of Sales as she takes over the newly created Customer Experience Lufthansa Group Airlines unit where she will report directly to Christina Foerster, Lufthansa Group Executive Board Member for Customer, IT & Corporate Responsibility. In her new position, Ms. Birlenbach will develop innovative offers by bundling inflight and ground products across the travel chain with an end-to-end digital customer experience and worldwide guest servicing. With this move, the Lufthansa Group reinforces their increased focus on meeting and exceeding the needs of modern customers.
