The Lufthansa Group announced on Wednesday an innovative return flight guarantee program for all guests of Lufthansa, SWISS & Austrian Airlines traveling on European routes. In cooperation with AXA Partners, the program offers a new level of protection for carefree travel.
Today, the Lufthansa Group announced an innovative new program which provides guests of Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines a return flight guarantee when traveling on European routes. In cooperation with AXA Partners insurance the program offers Classic and Flex fare customers an “all-round carefree package” and a “Bring me Home Now” feature for guests traveling on a Flex fare. The added peace of mind is included in fares with no additional charge. The basic return flight guarantee applies to all customers regardless of fare booked and ensures guests that they will be returned home to Germany, Austria or Switzerland with a Lufthansa Group airline, even if a special repatriation flight is necessary.
The “all-round carefree package” for Economy Classic and Business Saver fares include additional attractive guarantee components in cooperation with AXA Partners insurance. For example, if a traveler is unable to enter a destination country due to a high temperature or is quarantined after a COVID-19 test, the insurance will cover the cost of the quarantine or medical return. Additionally, the program allows guests to utilize a tele-medicine consultation feature with a German-speaking doctor. The insurance also covers possible quarantine hotel and transport costs, if for example a guest must depart from a different airport in the holiday country. The program will even reimburse travelers for unused hotel stays and excursions.
Finally, Economy Flex and Business Flex customers flying European routes on Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines will benefit from the new “Bring me Home Now” option. This feature guarantees passage on the next bookable flight of a Group carrier to Germany, Austria or Switzerland free of rebooking fees or fare difference. In Wednesday’s announcement, Lufthansa Group Board Member – Customer Care & Corporate Responsibility, Christina Foerster said,
“We have been talking to customers in recent weeks in order to better understand the needs but also the concerns surrounding travel in times of Corona. With this new and so far, unique offer, we want to help ensure that our guests can spend their holidays in Europe as carefree as possible.”
The new options described above will be available to guests from June 25th through the end of August for bookings made on the Group’s direct sales channels in the home markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The program covers all travels with a return flight through January 2021, without fare increase or change fees.
