On Monday (March 28, 2022), Lufthansa Cargo announced that in partnership with cargo.one customers will now enjoy an optimized digital booking process. Shippers can now have their air waybill (AWB) numbers assigned to them digitally and automatically, eliminating the need for time consuming manual management of air waybill inventories and numbers. Lufthansa Cargo is the exclusive launch partner for the new, free, cargo.one feature, where all Lufthansa Cargo capacities can be booked. During the second quarter of 2022, Lufthansa Cargo also plans to introduce automated air waybill number assignment on their own website.

In Monday’s announcment, Lufthansa Cargo’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ashwin Bhat, said,

“We are very pleased that we will be able to offer our customers a more efficient booking process and an improved customer experience in the future. The fact that we are the first airfreight airline to jointly launch the process of automated air waybill number assignment with cargo.one shows once again that Lufthansa Cargo is playing a pioneering role in the digitalization of the entire industry. Excellent customer orientation and modern digital distribution are our top priorities.”

Starting today, freight forwarders who use cargo.one to book shipments with Lufthansa Cargo can book immediately, without need of entering a valid AWB number first. By using the ‘Book now’ button, customers who select any Lufthansa Cargo offer will automatically receive a valid AWB number with their booking confirmation. If desired, customers can still enter an AWB number manually, and if they do not want or cannot use an Automated AWB allocation, will be given the option to have an AWB inventory sent to them manually for future bookings.

With revenue of €3.8 billion and 7.2 billion freight ton kilometers in 2021, Lufthansa Cargo is one of the world’s leading air freight companies, employing approximately 4,200 team members worldwide. The cargo carrier serves around 300 destinations in over 100 countries with a dedicated fleet of freighters, as well as belly-hold cargo capacity of passenger aircraft operated by Lufthansa German Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings Discover and SunExpress. Lufthansa Cargo also operates an extensive road feeder service network. Lufthansa Cargo is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and is the Group’s logistics specialist.
