On Tuesday (January 12, 2021), the Lufthansa Group announced that customers of Lufthansa and SWISS will now enjoy more flight options to Australia via Singapore’s Changi International Airport with seamless connections to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin and Perth via Singapore Airlines. Connections to Australia via Singapore started on January 4, 2021 and complements Lufthansa’s existing connections to Australia via Japan with their partner All Nippon Airways. Combined, Lufthansa and SWISS currently offer 10 weekly flights from Frankfurt and Zurich to Singapore. In Tuesday’s announcement, Lufthansa Group Airlines’ Chief for Southeast Asia, Heiko Brix, said,

“Enabling transit connections is a game-changer – especially for reconnecting Europe and Australia. We know thousands of Australians are stranded in Europe, and longing to return home and be with their families, friends and loved ones. Since capacity between Europe and Australia remains scarce, Lufthansa, SWISS and Singapore Airlines are ready to fill this void. We will continue to help reconnect the world. In total, it is safe to say Lufthansa Group airlines have always maintained the highest standards of safety and hygiene for our passengers – it’s at the core of our DNA. We already did a lot before the coronavirus hit the world, and we will certainly continue to do so in these extraordinary times.”

Every Lufthansa Group flight adheres to the strictest health and hygiene standards and all aircraft are equipped with state-of-the-art hospital grade HEPA filters that continuously clean the cabin air. As the air is recirculated, it is filtered and cleaned of impurities including dust, bacteria and viruses. This accounts for 40 percent of the cabin air, while 60 percent is added as fresh air from outside the aircraft. Lufthansa continues to evaluate all procedures and processes throughout the entire customer journey to guarantee the maximum safety of guests and team members.
