On Monday (May 9, 2022), Loganair announced the launch of new twice weekly service between Shetland and London City Airport which will operate on Mondays and Thursdays. London City Airport is only six miles from central London and three miles from the canary Wharf, providing convenient access to the bustling city for short breaks or longer visits. Additionally, the carrier has launched direct service between Shetland and Dundee, which will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays utilizing the same aircraft. Dundee visitors can enjoy top tourist sites such as the V&A Museum, while golfers will appreciate convenient access to nearby St. Andrews.

In Monday’s announcment, Loganair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Kay Ryan, said,

“This new direct service between London City Airport and Shetland allows for quick and easy access to two of the UK’s most popular destinations for the first time. Shetlanders will now be just a short trip from the bustling city of London for both business and leisure, while Londoners, and those travelling through London, have access to the tranquil setting of Shetland where they can take in the incredible wildlife and picturesque views on offer.

“Likewise, the new Dundee route brings connectivity to the east coast of Scotland, allowing travellers to explore all that the city has on offer but also allowing further access to nearby coastal towns such as St Andrews. It is great to be able to offer this enhanced choice and connectivity to/from Shetland which will be welcome news for many local businesses recovering from the pandemic”

In a separate press release on Monday (May 9, 2022), Loganair further announced that they will suspend service between Teesside and London Heathrow in two weeks due to increasing takeoff and landing fees. Service between Teesside and Southampton will also stop because of the cessation of London Heathrow flights, as the route cannot be accommodated on remaining Loganair aircraft. Customers impacted by the route suspensions will be offered alternative routing (if applicable) or a full refund.
