In Thursday (September 15, 2022), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced an increase in capacity in Jutland with new service between Amsterdam Schiphol and Aarhus, the carrier’s fourth destination in Denmark. A cornerstone of KLM’s strategy has always been to be close to their customers. The airline has flown from Copenhagen since 1925, from Billund since 2006, from Aalborg since 2011, and now to/from Aarhus. Customers traveling from the Aarhus area will also now enjoy seamless connectivity via Schiphol to popular destinations in Southern Europe and beyond, including exciting tropical getaways to exotic destinations such as Curaçao.

In Thursday’s announcment, Air France-KLM Denmark’s Sales Director, Anita Wagner Feddersen, said,

“We can see a strong increase in demand for travel out of Denmark. Danes both search for and book trips far more than before the pandemic, and it therefore feels natural to increase capacity in order to be close to even more customers. Denmark is an important market for Northern Europe and therefore we are happy to be able to add Aarhus to our route network.”

Also commenting on KLM’s new service, Aarhus Airport’s CEO, Brian Worm, said,

“The direct route to Amsterdam is a gift to East Jutland holidaymakers and the business community, which we have worked hard to bring home. We strive to support economic growth in Aarhus and the surrounding area, and we are very pleased to have landed such a sought-after route. Attracting new routes and especially new airlines is a very cool move. It is very promising for a future collaboration that KLM chooses to prioritize Aarhus, and it emphasizes that KLM has seen the travel potential that is present around Aarhus.”

VisitAarhus’ Director, Pia Lange Christensen, added,

“It is really good news that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is opening a direct route to Aarhus already in the coming month. It is an exciting opportunity to have another route that connects guests from all over the world and the Netherlands to our region. The Aarhus region already has a lot of Dutch guests, and hopefully the new route will mean even more guests from the Netherlands.”

The Air France-KLM Group has also noticed increasing demand in the Scandinavian and Finnish markets from outside markets, resulting in the opening of several winter seasonal routes to popular destinations such as Kittilä, Rovaniemi and Tromsö.
