JetBlue Blue Basic Fare to Include a Free Carry-On Bag From September 6, 2024

JetBlue has today announced a boost to their Blue Basic fare by including a free carry-on bag for travel from September 6, 2024, regardless of when booked.  Previously, customers wishing to bring a carry-on had to purchase a different fare or an Even More Space seat.

On Tuesday (June 18, 2024), JetBlue announced an elevation of their Blue Basic fare with the inclusion of a complimentary carry-on bag for travel starting September 6, 2024, regardless of when booked.  Previously, in order to bring a carry-on, JetBlue customers were required to book a different fare option or purchase and Even More Space seat.  With the change, JetBlue’s basic economy fare will represent one of the industry’s best values for price-sensitive consumers.

In Tuesday’s announcement, JetBlue’s President, Marty St. George, said,

“Carry-on bags are an important part of travel to customers, and when presented with a choice between JetBlue’s award-winning service and another carrier’s basic offering, we want JetBlue to be the easy winner.  We’re always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences.  This is a win-win as we improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in our industry.

“As flying becomes cheaper and more accessible for a spectrum of customers, a one-size-fits-all offering no longer works.  Whether a customer prefers more included benefits, or they shop solely on price, our fare options coupled with our great onboard service, makes JetBlue the best choice. No matter what fare a customer prefers, we provide clear and transparent information on what that selection includes.”

In the event of space constraints on a particular flight, customers traveling on a Basic Blue fare may be required to check their carry-on bag at the gate for no additional charge.  All bags remain subject to the current size and weight restrictions, and additional fees will be required for oversized and overweight bags.  JetBlue guests wishing to board earlier to use overhead bin space may now find more value in the more flexible Blue fare, the carrier’s second lowest fare that includes advanced seat selection, no cancellation or change fees and general boarding.  Blue Basic customers will still board last and the fares are subject to a cancellation fee.
