Japan Airlines Commences Airbus A321ceo P2F Conversion for April 2024 Launch

Yamato Holdings and Japan Airlines have commenced the conversion of an Airbus A321ceo P2F (passenger-to-freighter) for an April 2024 service launch. The process officially began on May 8th by ST Engineering in Singapore and will be completed by September 2023.

On Tuesday (June 6, 2023), Japan Airlines (JAL) announced that in partnership with Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (YHD), they have started the conversion process for an Airbus A321ceo P2F (passenger-to-freighter). The process officially began on May 8th in Singapore and is scheduled to be completed by September 2023, for entry-into-service in April 2024. The aircraft will be ferried to Japan in late October and flight training for crew will commence in late November. JAL has already delivered three aircraft for conversion and the first aircraft is now being converted by ST Engineering in Singapore under the management and supervision of Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW) of Germany. The second and third aircraft are currently parked in France.

EFW was founded in 1955 and partnered with Airbus in 1991, as well as ST Engineering in 2013. The company now specializes in the conversion of Airbus aircraft from passenger to dedicated freighters. Beginning in late November 2023, flight training will be conducted twice daily in six segments from Tokyo Narita to Kansai International Airport and back to Narita. The Airbus A321 P2F has a maximum payload of 28 tons and can accommodate 14 main deck AAY containers and 10 lower deck AKH containers.
