ITA Airways Partners With German Airways on New Routes to London City, Luxembourg and Geneva

ITA Airways has partnered with German Airways for a wet lease agreement on new routes from Milan Linate to London City, Luxembourg and Geneva starting March 28, 2022. The routes will be operated with the German carrier’s Embraer E190 aircraft.

On Friday (February 18, 2022), ITA Airways announced a new partnership with German Airways to operate direct routes from Milan Linate to London City, Luxembourg and Geneva starting March 28, 2022. Under the wet lease agreement, German Airways will operate the routes with Embraer E190s featuring ITA's Superior and Economy Class cabins. The aircraft livery will be labeled ‘Operated by ITA Airways’. ITA plans on operating the routes with their own aircraft as soon as they receive their first new Airbus A220-300s.


Tickets are now available for purchase across all ITA Airways sales channels. For summer 2022, the route between Milan Linate and London City will operate three times daily Mondays through Fridays, plus one flight on Saturdays and two flights on Sundays. Flights will depart Milan Linate at 07:00, 12:20 and 07:40, while the return flights will take off from London City at 08:25, 13:45 and 19:05, for a total of 36 weekly return flights.


Based at Cologne/Bonn Airport, German Airways is a medium-sized provider of aircraft wet lease and charter services. Since 2017, the carrier has belonged to Zeitfracht, a modern logistics company based in Berlin. The airline previously operated under the name WDL Aviation, and German Airways has over 60 years of expertise and experience in the aviation industry, making it one of Europe’s oldest airlines. German Airways Operates a fleet on nine Embraer E190-100LRs.


Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) was founded in November 2020 and is the new Italian national carrier wholly-owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. Commencing operations in October 2021, the carrier currently has a fleet of 45 narrowbody and seven widebody aircraft, including 18 Airbus A319s, 27 A320s and seven A330s. During 2022, ITA Airways’ fleet will grow to 78 aircraft, increasing to 105 aircraft by the end of 2025 (82 narrowbody aircraft and 23 widebodies).
