Italy’s new national carrier, ITA Airways, has today firmed up an order for 28 Airbus aircraft including seven A220s, 11 A320neos and 10 A330neos. The order confirms the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 30, 2021.
On Wednesday (December 1, 2021), Airbus announced that ITA Airways, the Italian national carrier, has firmed up an order for 28 Airbus aircraft. The order confirms a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 30, 2021, including seven Airbus A220s, 11 A320neos and 10 A330neos. Additionally, ITA will pursue plans to lease Airbus A350s to complement their fleet modernization program. The new aircraft will expand the carrier’s initial fleet with a new generation of aircraft with better environmental performance, the latest technologies and state-of-the-art cabins to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
In Wednesday’s announcement, ITA Airways’ Executive President, Alfredo Altavilla, said,
“Today the strategic partnership with Airbus takes an important step forward with the finalization of the order we announced last September. In addition to this agreement, possibilities for further collaboration have emerged, in particular regarding technological developments in the aviation sector and digitalization, where Airbus is the market leader. All this is part of the actions to achieve our environmental sustainability objectives.”
Also commenting on today’s firm order, Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, Christian Scherer, said, “We are very proud to partner with ITA Airways in building its long-term future with the most efficient, latest technology Airbus aircraft. This agreement supports ITA Airways business objectives to develop its network in Europe and internationally in the most sustainable way.”
Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) was founded in November 2020 and is the new Italian national carrier wholly-owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. ITA Airways currently operates 59 routes to 44 domestic and international destinations, and has plans to grow to 89 routes to 74 destinations by 2025. The carrier has a fleet of 45 narrowbody and seven widebody aircraft.
