On Tuesday (June 5, 2024), Icelandair announced the signing of a new codeshare agreement with Emirates.  The new agreement will allow customers to travel seamlessly across both networks on a single ticket, with baggage checked through to their final destination.  Codeshare flights will be available for booking from September 1st, 2024, subject to regulatory approvals.  Icelandair passengers in North America and Iceland will be able to connect eastbound via Emirates’ network to Dubai, while Emirates passengers worldwide can connect westbound via Icelandair’s network to Iceland.  The two airlines expect to expand the partnership further in the future.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Icelandair’s President and CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said,

“We are very pleased to announce Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East, as our seventh global airline codeshare partner.  We have and will continue to expand our network of partner airlines, focusing on working with airlines that offer great service and connectivity. Emirates’ extensive network will open exciting and convenient travel opportunities for our customers and we very much look forward to the expanded cooperation.”

Also commenting on the new codeshare partnership, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, said,

“We’re pleased to partner with Icelandair and offer our customers access to new and exciting destinations beyond our own network.  Iceland is an incredibly popular destination with stunning natural landscapes, making the island an aspirational destination for leisure travelers.  We look forward to our new partnership with Icelandair and are positive it will grow further to offer even more connectivity and options for travellers.”

Founded in 1937, Icelandair uses their unique geographical location as a hub midway between Europe and North America, and offers direct flights to over 50 destinations.  The carrier also operates a domestic flight network in Iceland, an airfreight and logistics business, and also offers leasing and consulting services.  In 2023, Icelandair transported 4.3 million passengers to 55 destinations in Europe and North America, generating revenue of US $1.5 billion.  The company employs approximately 3,600 full-time employees.
