Icelandair has announced the signing of lease agreements for two Airbus A321LRs with CALC. In a separate announcement, the carrier also announced that company CEO Bogi Nils Bogason will temporarily serve in a dual role as Chief Operating Officer.

On Thursday (September 11, 2025), Icelandair announced the signing of new lease agreements for two Airbus A321LR aircraft with aircraft lessor China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings Limited (CALC). The aircraft will be delivered directly from CALC’s orderbook with Airbus in winter 2026/27, and will join Icelandair’s growing fleet of Airbus A321LRs, which are gradually replacing the airline’s aging Boeing 757s. The A321LR offers extended range, improved fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions compared to the 757s, while aligning with Icelandair’s sustainability goals, and enhancing passenger comfort.
In Thursday’s announcement, Icelandair’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said,
“We are excited to welcome CALC as a new partner in our fleet development journey. The addition of these two Airbus A321LR aircraft supports our strategy to modernize our fleet with new, more efficient aircraft. Furthermore, it reflects our commitment to delivering an exceptional travel experience while strengthening our route network.”
Also commenting on the new lease agreements, CALC’s President and COO, Winnie Liu, said,
“We are delighted to launch this new partnership with Icelandair. As a trusted partner to airlines worldwide, we are committed to delivering flexible and efficient fleet solutions aligned with our customers’ long-term strategies.”
In a separate press release on Thursday (September 11th), Icelandair announced the official retirement of the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Sylvía Kristín Ólafsdóttir. As the recruitment process is still ongoing, Icelandair’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, will temporarily take on a dual role as Chief Operating Officer.
Speaking on Sylvía Kristín Ólafsdóttir’s retirement, Icelandair’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, added,
“I would like to thank Sylvia for her important contribution to Icelandair and great cooperation over the past years, and I wish her all the best in her new ventures.”
