Iberia to Restore 85 Percent of Pre-Pandemic Capacity for Summer 2022

Iberia will restore 85 percent of their 2019 capacity for summer 2022 including the launch of routes to Dallas and Washington D.C. and resumption of service to San Francisco. The carrier will also restart two daily flights to Argentina, Colombia and Mexico.

On Wednesday (March 23, 2022), Iberia announced that with increasing demand, they will restore 85 percent of their capacity for summer 2022 compared to 2019. The airline will launch new service to Dallas and Washington D.C., and will restore service to San Francisco. Iberia will also restore twice daily service to Argentina, Colombia and Mexico, and restore 100 percent of European capacity. Domestically, Iberia Express will offer 27 percent more seats to the Balearic and Canary archipelagos versus 2019 with up to 2.7 million seats.


This summer, Iberia will increase service from Spain to the U.S. from six to nine destinations with over 120 weekly flights. From June, the carrier will launch service to Washington D.C. and Dallas, while resuming flights to San Francisco. The carrier will also increase capacity to Boston, Los Angeles, Miami and New York. Between June 1st and October 29, 2022, Iberia will offer four weekly flights to both Washington D.C. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, as well as four weekly flights to Dallas, Texas on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Inbound customers to Dallas will also enjoy seamless onward connectivity via Iberia's joint business partner American Airlines. Service to San Francisco will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Iberia will also offer 220 weekly flights between Spain and Latin America in July and August. Starting in June, the carrier will offer 19 weekly flights to Mexico as well as twice daily service to Colombia. During July and August, Iberia will also offer double daily service to Argentina, daily service to Peru, Chile and Brazil, seven weekly flights to Ecuador (four to Quito and three to Guayaquil), and four to five weekly flights to Uruguay.


For customers wishing to visit the Caribbean, Iberia will offer nine weekly flights to the Dominican Republic, as well as four weekly flights to Cuba. In Central America, the airline will operate up to six weekly flights to Costa Rica, four weekly flights to Guatemala/El Salvador and up to five weekly flights to Panama.


As previously mentioned, Iberia will recover 2019 European capacity on short and medium-haul routes, including even more service to the Canary and Balearic Islands. The carrier will offer over 1.7 million sets to the Canary Islands this summer with a 42 percent increase in capacity to Lanzarote, a 25 percent increase to Gran Canaria, and a 23 percent increase in capacity to Fuerteventura versus 2019. Iberia Express will operate an average of 45 weekly frequencies to Tenerife (34 to Tenerife North and 14 to Tenerife South), 48 to Gran Canaria, 18 to Lanzarote, 15 to Fuerteventura and 10 to La Palma, as well as up to two weekly frequencies on the transverse Oviedo-Tenerife North and Tenerife North-Vigo routes. For the Balearics, Iberia Express will offer an average of 45 weekly frequencies to Mallorca (up to seven weekly returns), 22 weekly flights to Ibiza and 13 to Menorca.


The carrier will also offer flights to Lisbon, Porto, Faro Funchal and Ponte Delgada in the Azores (Portugal), as well as 11 destinations in Italy including Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, Naples, Bologna and Turin. From mid-June, Iberia will also serve Catania, Olbia and Cagliari, while Iberia Express will operate flights to Bari. In Croatia, Iberia will serve Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Split, while the airline’s Greek network will include flights to Athens and Corfu with Iberia and Mykonos, Crete and Santorini with Iberia Express. Iberia and Iberia Express will also operate up to two weekly flights from Madrid to Bergen (Norway) and Keflavik (Iceland) this summer.
