On Monday (July 29, 2024), Iberia Group announced the launch of new service between Madrid and Ljubljana in Slovenia. The route will be operated twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays by Air Nostrum with a 100-seat CRJ1000 regional jet. Fares are now available from €89 each way, based on a roundtrip booking, and the seasonal route will operate until September 5, 2024. Monday’s inaugural flight was welcomed by Robert Latin, Director General of the Air and Transport Directorate of the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia, and Janez Lapajne, Director of Sales and Marketing for Ljubljana Airport.
In Monday’s announcement, Iberia’s Sales Director – Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Carmen Giraud, said,
“We are delighted to be launching direct flights between Madrid and Ljubljana. This new route strengthens ties between Spain and Slovenia, as it offers passengers departing from Madrid the chance to discover the wonders of Ljubljana and its surroundings. And for those departing from Slovenia, it offers not only the opportunity to discover Madrid, but also to connect with the other 141 destinations on Iberia’s route network.”
Also commenting on Iberia’s new service, Ljubljana Airport’s Director – Sales and Marketing, Janez Lapajne, added,
“We are excited about the new Iberia route from Ljubljana to Madrid, which significantly strengthens our connections and thus improves the airport’s connectivity. As a new destination, Madrid offers a visit to the attractive Spanish capital, and Madrid Airport, with its strong network of connections, is an excellent starting point especially for trips to Latin America. The connection is certainly also interesting for Spanish passengers, who can visit Slovenia with a direct flight and experience its beauties. Lively Ljubljana, magical Bled with its island or the mysterious Postojna Cave are just some of the most popular spots in Slovenia, which is also famous as a boutique, green and diverse destination.”
The historic city of Ljubljana is over 2,000 years old, and the city’s proximity to the Julian Alps sets it apart from other capitals of the former Yugoslavia. Easily explored on foot, the city offers many must-see destinations, including Ljubljana Castle, many museums, the opera house, Triple Bridge and Congress Square. Ljubljana’s charming streets combine tradition, art and antiquity, with modern and contemporary enclaves such as the Neboticnik skyscrapers. Visitors may also be interested in visiting Lake Bled, which is located 60 km from the city. The lake’s stunning blue waters surround an island which features the Sexton House, a 15th century chapel that can only be accessed by climbing the 99 steps. The spectacular island landscape also features the Church of Mary and the Provost’s House.
