IAG has confirmed and order for 37 additional Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, having received shareholder approval. This follows an order for 22 A320neo Family aircraft announced in March and June 2022, increasing the total for the year to 59.
On Thursday (October 27, 2022), Airbus announced that the International Airlines Group (IAG) has placed an order for an additional 37 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, following shareholder approval. The latest order follows earlier agreements in March and June 2022 for 17 A320neos and five A321neos, taking the Group’s total single-aisle Airbus aircraft order for the year to 59 jets. With new generation engines and Sharklets, the A320neo Family delivers a fuel burn reduction of at least 20 percent compared to previous generation aircraft.
In Thursday’s announcement, Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, Christian Scherer, said,
“IAG operates Airbus aircraft extensively in its fleet making it one of the largest Airbus customers globally. These latest generation aircraft will be key in IAG’s stated environmental mission to operate the world’s most fuel efficient planes.”
The Airbus A320neo Family has received over 8,500 orders from more than 130 customers worldwide, making the single-aisle Family the world’s most popular aircraft.
The International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) is one of the world’s leading airline groups and has a combined fleet of 531 aircraft. Pre-pandemic, the Group served 279 destinations, carrying nearly 120 million guests annually. The Group’s airlines include Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling. The company’s other subsidiaries include IAG Loyalty, IAG Cargo, and IAB Global Business Services (GBS).
