Updated: Jan 11, 2020

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) has ranked Frontier Airlines first in U.S. Airlines for fuel efficiency. ICCT credits Frontier’s A320neos and seating configuration as contributing the airline’s 2017-2018 fuel savings.

The Frontier Airlines Press Release states that the airline has a significant lead over the rest of the industry, besting the next two airlines by a fuel efficiency of seven percent. Overall, the ICCT report shows that Frontier performed 26% better than the least efficient operator and 15% better than the nation’s largest carriers. Frontier currently operates the largest fleet of A320neos of any U.S. airline and has an additional 170 on order. Compared to previous generation models, the Airbus A320neo (new engine option), delivers higher levels of fuel efficiency and noise reduction. In addition to the efficiency of the aircraft, Frontier is credited with using weight savings and baggage processes which have contributed to their fuel savings. In the announcement, Frontier’s President and CEO Barry Biffle stated,

“Frontier is America’s Greenest Airline and we’re incredibly proud that the report from the ICCT confirmed that we are number one in fuel efficiency among U.S. carriers. Our business has undergone an amazing transformation to reach this level of efficiency and we’re committed to continuing our efforts to be a more sustainable and affordable option for travelers.”
