On Monday (September 18, 2023), Fiji Airways announced the launch of new service to the capital of New Caledonia, Noumea, as part of the airline’s existing Air Service Agreement (ASA) which allows the airline to provide services in the French territories. The first flight to La Tontouta International Airport in Noumea will commence on Thursday, November 30, 2023, while twice weekly flights on Mondays and Thursdays will be available starting December 7, 2023. The new route will provide seamless connections for guests traveling out of New Caledonia to destinations in Fiji Airways’ network across the Pacific Islands, North America and Asia.

In Monday’s route announcement, Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Andre Viljoen, said,

“Based on this agreement, we were able to negotiate with our counterparts in New Caledonia and select a date for the commencement of services between Nadi and Noumea. We at Fiji Airways are very excited about the prospects of this new route. Furthermore, thanks to our codeshare partners, we can connect New Caledonians to more than 100 destinations around the world. At Fiji Airways, we have consistently strived to expand our regional services because we see ourselves connecting not just Fiji – but the Pacific to the rest of the world. We have adopted a robust growth plan with ongoing efforts to add more routes to the network. This is part of our strategic plan to increase revenue and ensure the long term sustainability of the airline.”

With the added service to Noumea, Fiji Airways now offers nonstop service to 26 destinations worldwide. New Caledonia is Fiji Airways’ third new market introduced since international borders opened in December 2021, following the global COVID-19 pandemic. Fiji Airways carries 70 percent of all travelers to Fiji, and is also the largest foreign exchange earner for the country's economy.
