Today, Etihad Airways announced the launch of their inaugural flight between Abu Dhabi and Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport, exactly 13 years after the carrier first connected Abu Dhabi and Moscow. The inaugural flight took place on Thursday, December 2, 2021.
On Monday (December 6, 2021), Etihad Airways announced the launch of their inaugural flight between Abu Dhabi and the new state-of-the-art international Terminal C at Moscow Sheremetyevo Alexander S. Pushkin International Airport (SVO), which took place on December 2nd. The inaugural service was operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with flight EY63 departing Abu Dhabi at 09:35 and arriving in Moscow at 14:25. Upon arrival, guests were greeted with a welcoming ceremony including a delegation of government ministers, the UAE Ambassador to Russia and senior SVO executives. The return flight to Abu Dhabi departed Moscow at 15:50. The route will be operated daily with either a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner or an Airbus A321.
In today’s announcement, Etihad Aviation Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Tony Douglas, said,
“After 13 years connecting our two capital cities, we’re delighted to introduce the 787 on this route and move to Russia’s newest and most sophisticated airport, providing better connectivity for guests between Abu Dhabi and Moscow in support of our objective to grow trade and tourism opportunities between our two countries. Supported by an increased daily flight schedule providing Russian holiday makers and business travellers with even more opportunity to visit the UAE, this is the start of a new phase in relations building on the strong economic ties between Moscow and Abu Dhabi.”
Complementing their move to SVO, Etihad Airways continues to enhance and develop their partnership with Aeroflot, including the launch of codeshare services, and exploring other areas of cooperation to enhance guest benefits. Upon arrival in Russia, UAE citizens will be able to obtain an entry visa, while Russian citizens are also able to enter the UAE and obtain a visa valid for 30 days free of charge, which can be extended for 30 additional days.
