On Tuesday (September 1st, 2020) EGYPTAIR announced the signing of a new codeshare agreement with Air Cairo, one of the largest hybrid low-cost and scheduled carriers in Egypt. The airlines signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 7, 2020, in preparation for their planned cooperation. The new agreement will expand the networks of both airlines’ networks both domestically and beyond Cairo Airport. In Tuesday’s announcement, EGYPTAIR Airlines’ Chairman and CEO, Captain Amr AbuElenin said,

“The implementation of the codeshare agreement is scheduled to commence during Winter Season 2020/2021, as Air Cairo code will be placed on EGYPTAIR domestic flights between Cairo and Aswan, Luxor, Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Asuit, Alexandria and Suhag and on EGYPTAIR international flights between Cairo and Rome, Milan, Bahrain, and Copenhagen. This step comes as part of EGYPTAIR’s plan to achieve integration between the flight schedules of both airlines and offering more flying options for Air Cairo customers to the top destinations in Egypt and to other destinations in the EGYPTAIR global network. While EGYPTAIR customers will have the chance to fly to a number of destinations in East Europe and the Middle East through domestic airports in Egypt.”

Also commenting on the new codeshare agreement, Air Cairo’s Chairman, Mr. Hussein Sherif added,

“Air Cairo has taken several measures throughout the past few months to activate the memorandum of understanding. As the airline will provide EGYPTAIR customers with the ability to fly nonstop from Sharm El-Sheikh to Naples and Bari – Italy, Yerevan – Armenia, Tbilisi – Georgia, from Hurghada to Yerevan, Tbilisi, Belgrade – Serbia, and from Suhag and Asuit Airports to Jeddah and Riyadh. EGYPTAIR & Air Cairo are committed to ensure providing a competitive network that meets the needs of both airlines’ customers.”

When the flights become available for booking on both carriers’ booking engines, EGYPTAIR customers can book through the airline’s contact center, website, EGYPTAIR offices or travel agents, while Air Cairo customers will be able to book flights through aircairo.com.
