Starting January 2024, all 14,000 easyJet crew will be issued reusable cups and cutlery, thereby diverting an estimated 10 million single-use items from potentially ending up in landfills annually.
On Wednesday (December 13, 2023), easyJet announced that following a successful trial in the EU, Switzerland and the UK, easyJet announced that all 14,000 crew members will be issued reusable cups and cutlery from January 2024. The carrier expects the initiative to save over 10 million single-use items annually, equivalent to 70 tonnes per year. The new cups and cutlery are made from durable materials that are built to last, and all new pilots and cabin crew will be issued a cup and cutlery set as part of their uniform allocation.
In Wednesday’s sustainability announcement, easyJet’s Head of Inflight Retail Operations, Angela Mullen, said,
“As always, our brilliant crew took this trial under their wings and through their passion and dedication to reduce unnecessary waste, we are now able to roll out this fantastic initiative network-wide. This is just one of the many ways we’re working to lower the impact of our operations and we’ll continue to trial new initiatives and make continuous improvements to help accomplish this goal.”
