On Wednesday (March 20, 2024), Delta Air Lines unveiled new uniform prototypes designed in partnership with GPS Apparel by Gap, Inc.  The modern ‘distinctively Delta’ uniform collection pays homage to the airline’s heritage and brand identity, and was created with feedback from some of the 70,000 uniformed employees across the company, including airport customer service agents, cabin crew, ground equipment mechanics and aircraft technicians.  Delta has partnered with GPS Apparel by GAP since 2022, the parent company of the iconic brands such as Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Delta’s SVP – Customer Experience Design, Ranjan Goswami, said,

“Delta has tens of thousands of uniformed employees, all with different needs and preferences.  That means any evolution of the uniform program will take time and deliberation to get right.  We are committed to using this time to listen, learn and iterate as we work toward a new look – one that reflects and celebrates who we are as Delta.”

Using a variety of feedback mechanisms, including job shadows, focus groups, surveys and interviews, the Gap team collected feedback from over 20,000 Delta team members on the future uniform designs.  That feedback is now being used to create prototypes that are comfortable, stylish, modern, durable and functional.  The uniform color palette features classic deep navy blues and rich burgundy, with accents of bright red and white, a nod to Delta’s brand identity and heritage.  The collection offers a cohesive and elevated look, and allows team members to choose between different styles and looks.  Garments are made from OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100-certified fabrics.

Paying further homage to Delta’s history and brand identity, designers incorporated the carrier’s iconic widget, first introduced in 1959, across the collection, in both subtle and obvious ways.  Delta will begin extensive wear testing for each garment in fall 2024, giving team members the opportunity to influence fit, form and function.  Rollout of the new uniform collection across all working groups is not expected for the next few years.
