For the first time in two years, British Airways will resume flights between the UK and Mainland China. From April 23rd, the carrier will operate daily flights between London Heathrow and Shanghai, while four weekly flights to Beijing will start on June 3, 2023.
On Thursday (February 2, 2023), British Airways announced the restart of flights between the UK and Mainland China after a two year hiatus due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Starting April 23, 2023, the carrier will offer daily service between London Heathrow (LHR) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) under flight numbers BA168/BA169. From June 3, 2023, British Airways will operate four weekly flights between London Heathrow and Beijing Daxing Airport (PKX) under flight numbers BA88/BA89.
In Thursday’s route announcement, British Airways’ Head of Sales – Asia Pacific, Noella Ferns, said,
“We can’t wait to welcome our customers back on board our flights from Shanghai and Beijing. We know they’ve been looking forward to reuniting with family and friends, coming to study in the UK and resuming business between China and the UK. We have an incredibly rich history of flying to mainland China, having connected the two countries for more than 40 years. We look forward to resuming these routes again.”
British Airways has offered service to China since 1980, and continued to operate flights until the onset of the pandemic. Shanghai and Beijing flights are now bookable on ba.com.
