British Airways Customers now have more choice when spending Avios, with all flights bookable from just £1 plus Avios part payment. Previously, the maximum discount varied, whereas now Executive Club loyalty members can reduce flight costs to just £1 using Avios.
On Tuesday (April 16, 2024), British Airways announced that customers now have more choice when spending their Avios. Executive Club loyalty members can now book any flight from only £1 plus Avios, whereas previously the maximum discount depended on multiple factors. The use of Avios part payment is different from booking a Reward Seat, of which a limited number are available on each flight at a fixed rate. Now, British Airways Executive Club members can use Avios part payment regardless of seat type, which allows more flexibility, with varying amounts of Avios required, and the ability to reduce the cash portion of the fare to as little as £1. The available discount on each flight will depend on each Member’s Avios balance, with the required Avios balance needed to reduce the maximum discount to £1.
In Tuesday’s announcement, British Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, Colm Lacy, said,
“We’ve listened to our Members’ feedback and we’re really excited to be introducing this latest update for them. We know that most of our customers choose the lowest cash amount when it comes to making Reward Flight bookings, so we anticipate this to be a popular option for those using Avios part payment too. Ultimately, our goal is to keeping adding more choice and flexibility for Members.”
This announcement follows the introduction of Avios part payment by British Airways Holidays in 2023, allowing holiday package bookings from £1 plus Avios. Executive Club members using Avios part payment will still collect Avios and Tier Points on their flight, along with any bonus Avios or Tier Points (if applicable). Additionally, Avios part payment can be used for American Airlines operated flights between the UK and North America, as well as British Airways codeshares with select partners. Avios can be collected by British Airways Executive Club members when flying with BA or partner airlines, taking a holiday, or making purchases at over 1,500 retailers when shopping through British Airways on their website. Members can also earn Avios through everyday spending with a range of partners, including American Express, Nectar, Avis Budget Group and Marriott. Additionally, members can collect Tier Points when flying with British Airways and oneworld® partners, allowing access to a range of exclusive benefits as the climb the Tiers from Blue, to Bronze, to Silver and Gold.
