On Monday (September 26, 2022), British Airways announced a new partnership for the launch of ‘Wine Flyer’, a dedicated online wine retailer. Starting October 4, 2022, British Airways Executive Club loyalty program members can collect up to 10 Avios per £1 spent on more than 140 varieties of wine. Each wine included in the range has been produced by a country on British Airways’ global network, with a focus on accessibility and quality. Prices start under £10 per bottle and the selection includes premium brands including Whispering Angel, Penfolds and Moët & Chandon. Some of the wines have been selected due to their legacy or future availability onboard British Airways’ flights, including Teusner’s ‘The Riebke’ Shiraz, which has been served in premium cabins. Additionally, the range will include beers, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages. A new dedicated website is coming soon at thewineflyer.co.uk.

In Monday’s announcment, IAG Loyalty’s CEO, Jack Smith, said,

“By launching The Wine Flyer, we have introduced one of the most generous Avios earning platforms available. A monthly subscription will help customers collect enough Avios to fly to destinations such Paris, Barcelona or Naples in just six months. We know that wine is a huge passion of many of our members, so we’re offering a broad choice in country, region, grape, style and price point to suit as many customers as possible. We have a unique opportunity to bring customers a variety of wines, including those that they’ve enjoyed in the air on British Airways flights, or in its lounges.”

Customers making one time purchases will collect 5 Avios per £1 spent on their total basket, while those signing up for a subscription will collect 10 Avios per £1 spent. As a special introductory offer available through December 31, 2022, all customers will receive 10 Avios per £1 spent on one-off purchases and 15 Avios per £1 on subscriptions. Wine can also be purchased from as little as 8,000 Avios per case of six, or with a combination of Avios and cash.

British Airways is part of International Airlines Group (IAG), one of the world’s largest airline groups with 533 aircraft serving 279 destinations and carrying around 118 million passengers annually (pre-pandemic). Avios is the global loyalty currency owned and operated by IAG Loyalty. The Group operates leading airlines in the UK, Ireland and Spain including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and Level.
