On Wednesday (September 15, 2021), British Airways announced the addition of two Portuguese destinations to their summer 2022 Heathrow short-haul schedule. The carrier will offer one weekly flight to both São Miguel and Terceira in the Azores which will operated from July 2nd until September 3rd, and July 10th through August 28, 2022, respectively. The Azores are made up of an archipelago of nine islands and are well known for gastronomy and wines, as well as incomparable scenic views and a large range of activities. Terceira is home to a UNESCO World Heritage site with its stunning laurel forests and São Miguel is home to the Lake of Seven Cities, considered one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal.

In Wednesday’s announcement, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, Neil Chernoff, said,

“After a difficult 18 months, it’s fantastic to be in a position to launch two new routes next summer from Heathrow. These two Islands in the Azores will be the perfect addition to our network, offering more choice in one of the most popular regions in Europe for British sunseekers.”

Return fares to São Miguel or Terceira both start at £79 in Euro Traveller and £208 in Club Europe.
