On Wednesday (April 19, 2023), Bonza announced the launch of new service between Toowoomba Wellcamp and Townsville Airport. The new route will be operated twice weekly on Sundays and Wednesdays with one-way fares from $69 per person. The Toowoomba Wellcamp-Townsville service follows Toowommba's first flight from Melbourne (Tullamarine) on Monday, April 17, 2023, and the region is gearing up to host flights to/from the Whitsundays on Friday. Townsville Airport is also welcoming Bonza guests from the Sunshine Coast and Rockhampton.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Bonza’s CEO, Tim Jordan, said,

“We’re delighted to launch this new route, which will link Toowoomba and Townsville directly providing a timely boost to both regions’ tourism economy. Why experience a really long drive or fly via a capital city when you can now fly direct with Bonza to explore North Queensland and Southern Queensland Country. Both destinations offer unique attractions and experiences, from the natural landscapes of the Great Barrier Reef and Magnetic Island to the rich culture and history of Toowoomba’s parks, gardens and museums.”

Also commenting on the new service, Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport’s General Manager, Kellie Banditt, said,

“Today is a great day for Wellcamp Airport as we deliver the opportunity for locals and travellers from surrounding regions the ability to now affordably travel to new destinations.”

Townsville Airport’s General Manager, Brendan Cook, added,

“Bonza’s existing services through Townsville Airport have proven to be very popular since launching earlier this year, and we know the community will be pleased to see Bonza providing more options to connect with friends and family. In just one and a half months, we’ve already seen thousands of passengers utilising Bonza’s new connections through Townsville Airport, with the Sunshine Coast – Townsville route proving popular on Bonza’s network.”

Bonza is Australia’s new, and only independent low-cost carrier (LCC), enabling Australians to explore more of their own backyard at low prices. The airline currently operates a fleet of five brand new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, which will grow to eight by the end of the first year of operations. Bonza’s initial route map includes 27 routes to 17 destinations. Over 90 percent of Bonza routes are not served by any airline, and 96 percent are not served by a low-cost carrier. The lowest fares are now available for booking on the FlyBonza App.
