On Wednesday (August 23, 2023), Bonza announced the addition of their first Tasmanian route with the launch of new service between Gold Coast and Launceston. From November 21, 2023, the route will operate year-round three times per week on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Launceston is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and the gateway to stunning natural experiences including Cradle Mountain. This is Bonza’s first destination outside of Australia’s East Coast. Tickets are now available for booking via the Fly Bonza app with introductory one-way fares from $79 per person.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Bonza’s Chief Commercial Officer, Carly Povey, said,

“Today is a Bonza day for Launnie and Goldie locals who can now enjoy more of their backyard with direct flights that don’t cost the earth. Since we launched in January, travellers have been calling out for flights from Launceston on our social media channels and today, we are delighted to deliver! The good news is, already more than 11,000 Tasmanians have already downloaded our Fly Bonza app so they’re ready to go! This brand new low-cost route is a first to operate year round and will open up opportunities in both destinations for tourism and trade. It’s good news for Aussie travellers and the many small to medium businesses who make up the local tourism and hospitality industries. “Our strapline is ‘Here for Allstralia’ and today we take another step in delivering that promise with our first destination beyond the many incredible East Coast locations we fly to. There will be more destinations for Launceston, and Bonza’s wider route map, to come. We look forward to revealing what’s next when the time is right.”

Also commenting on Bonza’s newest route, Launceston Airport’s CEO, Shane O’Hare, added,

“Bonza is doing things differently and by providing direct connections between new parts of the country they are making it more affordable for Australians to explore their own backyard. These year-round services will make it much easier for Tasmanians to enjoy Australia’s favourite holiday hotspot, but it also opens the door for thousands more tourists from south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales to visit our state. Launceston is one of the best city break destinations in Australia and as the gateway to many of our state’s incredible natural wonders, we are thrilled to be chosen as Bonza’s Tasmanian launching pad.”

Bonza is Australia’s new, and only independent low-cost carrier (LCC), enabling Australians to explore more of their own backyard at low prices. Bonza’s current route map includes three bases and 34 routes to 18 destinations. The airline currently operates a fleet of five brand new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, which will grow to eight by the end of the first year of operations. Over 90 percent of Bonza’s routes are not served by any airline, and 96 percent are not served by a low-cost carrier. The lowest fares are now available for booking on the FlyBonza App.
