On Tuesday (November 15, 2022), Air Canada announced that Bolloré Logistics has become Air Canada Cargo’s first customer to join the Leave Less Travel Program. The program offers effective options for corporate or cargo customers to reduce or offset the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with their business travel or freight transportation. Bolloré Logistics has agreed to compensate a significant portion of their GHG emissions for their projected shipments with Air Canada Cargo through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), representing a purchase of 620,000 litres in 2022. Balloré Logistics ranks among the world’s top ten transport groups, with an integrated network of 603 agencies in 111 countries.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Air Canada Cargo’s Vice President, Jason Berry, said,

“We are very pleased to welcome Bolloré Logistics as our first cargo customer to participate in Air Canada's Leave Less Travel Program. Addressing climate change in aviation requires a multifaceted approach, together with the united efforts of many stakeholders. The commitment of companies like Bolloré Logistics is a testament that environmentally-innovative business programs are mutually possible, further helping the aviation sector to build a long-term, sustainable industry.”

Also commenting on the sustainability partnership, Bolloré Logistics’ Managing Director Canada, Patrick LaFrance, added,

“At a time when climate awareness is at the heart of the strategy of many companies, Bolloré Logistics is proud to join a program that is financing the future of low-carbon air industry. Through this initiative with our partner Air Canada, we contribute our scope 3 CO2 reduction targets and offer more sustainable transport solutions to our clients.”

Launched in October 2021, Air Canada’s Leave Less Travel Program allows corporate and cargo customers to compensate for their carbon emissions through a customized approach including the use of SAF, carbon offsets, or a combination of both. To date, five companies have signed up to participate in the program. For cargo customers, Air Canada tracks and calculates the GHG emissions associated with the freight shipment. The cargo customer can choose how they want to mitigate emissions through the purchase of SAF or the purchase of carbon offsets via CHOOSE, thereby contributing to their sustainability goals.

The Leave Less Travel Program is part of Air Canada’s sustainability goals, including the carrier’s commitment to achieving minimum GHG reduction targets by 2030 compared to their 2019 baseline, and net-zero emissions from global operations by 2050. The carrier has also committed to investing $50 million in SAF, and carbon reductions and removals.

Air Canada is Canada’s largest domestic and international airline.
