Yesterday, February 20, 2020, Avianca announced a new codeshare agreement with TAP Air Portugal which will open the networks of both airlines, providing seamless connectivity between Portugal and Colombia. The codeshare will facilitate leisure and business travel between both countries while promoting trade, tourism and cultural exchange. Avianca's guests will benefit from one-stop connectivity from Lisbon with TAP Air Portugal operated flights to London, Munich, Madrid, Barcelona and Porto. TAP customers will benefit from connections to Bogotá from Miami and New York. Avianca also offers service between Cali and Miami and will soon introduce Miami service from Medellín. In Thursday’s announcement, Avianca Holdings’ Alliance Director, María Copete said,

“We are very pleased to announce our new codeshare with TAP Air Portugal, which we believe will stimulate the already growing market of 18,000 passengers during 2019 between Colombia and Portugal. Because of this new codeshare agreement, Avianca customers will be able to benefit from great connectivity beyond our European gateways (London, Madrid, Barcelona and Munich) to the main cities in Portugal like Porto and Lisbon.”

Also commenting on Thursday’s announcement, TAP Air Portugal’s Director – Alliances and Partnerships, Maria João added,

“We are excited to bring two flag carriers and Star Alliance members, with a combined history of 175 years, together. In the process, we will bring enhanced service offerings to those guests traveling between the two countries, and support growing trade, tourism, and family ties. TAP guests will be able to leverage more and enhanced connectivity options into Colombia via our North American gateways Miami and New York.”

Customers can book travel on codeshared flights now for service from February 27th, 2020. Additionally, travelers will earn miles on each airline’s respective frequent flyer programs, TAP Miles & Go and Avianca Life Miles. TAP and Avianca are both Star Alliance members, a 26-member global airline network which serves over 1,300 destinations in 195 countries.
