Starting in 2024, Austrian Airlines will launch a simpler and more transparent collection system for Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle status. The awarding of Miles & More award miles will remain unchanged.
On Tuesday (January 10, 2023), Austrian Airlines announced that all Lufthansa Group Airlines will offer a more understandable and transparent collection system for achieving and maintaining Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle status. Miles & More award miles will remain unchanged. The Group will also offer a new Lifetime Frequent Traveller Status in addition to the existing Lifetime Senator Status for exceptionally loyal customers. Customers who earn 30,000 Qualifying Points over the years will be awarded Frequent Traveller Lifetime status, while those achieving 40,000 Qualifying Points will be awarded Senator Lifetime status. The status program changes will become effective on January 1st, 2024.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Michael Trestl, said,
“Our guests always come first at Austrian Airlines. That's why it’s particularly important to us to reward the loyalty of our status guests. The changes in the status program that will apply from 2024 enable a simple and transparent system. The combination of this and the special amenities along the travel chain creates the simplest and most attractive offer on the market for our customers.”

As part of the change, Miles & More members will receive points for their flights instead of status miles. The points awarded will be determined by class of travel, and whether the flight is continental or intercontinental. Additionally, achieving status will become easier, and the status period will be at least one year in the future. The period to collect the required points will be one calendar year for each frequent flyer status. Long-standing frequent flyers will also be appointed Frequent Traveler and Senator for life. This will be based on the sum of all points on flights operated by Group airlines including Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Eurowings Discover, Lufthansa and SWISS, or the jointly issuing Miles & More airline partners.
