Austrian Airlines Names Barbara Schwarzott Head of Ground Operations

On August 15, 2023, Barbara Schwarzott will take over Austrian Airlines’ ground services as Senior Director Ground and Cargo Operations & Nominated Person Ground Operations.

On Monday (June 26, 2023), Austrian Airlines announced the appointment of Barbara Schwarzott as Senior Director Ground & Cargo Operations & Nominated Person Ground Operations effective August 15, 2023. In her new role, she will be responsible for ensuring worldwide aircraft handling, passengers and baggage for Austrian Airlines, as well as all customer airlines at Vienna Airport, leading a team of approximately 650 team members. Ms. Schwarzott succeeds Susanna Svejda who is joining Wiener Linien, the company that runs most of Vienna’s public transit network, as Operations Manager.


Barbara Schwarzott, an international business administration graduate, joined Austrian Airlines in 1996 as part of a training program, and later served in Ground Operations. From 1998, she held various management positions in sales and controlling with the Lufthansa Group. In 2018, Schwarzott moved to the Human Resources department, where she was responsible for all remuneration and other H.R. related issues. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, she served in a central function, managing extremely complex issues such as short-time work and its processing and accounting.
