On Wednesday (September 29, 2021), Austrian Airlines announced the extension of the summer season with service to warm weather destinations including Cancún, Mauritius and the Maldives during the Autumn holidays. The carrier will offer three weekly flights to Malé in the Maldives from October 2, 2021, as well as up to three weekly flights to the sunny Indian Ocean island of Mauritius starting October 23, 2021. Additionally, Austrian will launch twice-weekly service to sunny Cancún, Mexico from October 24, 2021, the first time the carrier served this popular holiday destination since 2006. Austrian Airlines will serve all three destinations with a long-haul Boeing 777, featuring Business Class and Economy Class cabins.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ Chief Sales Officer, Michael Trestl, said,

“The summer and also the current off-season show that people don't want to be deprived of their desire to travel and soak up the sun by the sea. With our winter flight schedule, we are therefore focusing specifically on attractive long-haul destinations at the start of the autumn holidays to satisfy our passengers' desire to travel. The long-haul tourist destinations are ideal for all those who want to go into summer extension and are still looking for a suitable destination for the upcoming autumn holidays.”

In an earlier press release on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Austrian Airlines announced the optimization of service between Germany and Austria in partnership with fellow Group airline Eurowings. Austrian will offer up to 13 weekly flights between Vienna and Hanover, while Eurowings will operate Graz-Stuttgart service four times weekly and Linz-Düsseldorf flights five times weekly. Starting January 10, 2021, Eurowings will operate the Graz-Stuttgart and Linz-Düsseldorf route five time a week and Graz-Düsseldorf flights three times weekly. From summer 2022, Eurowings will offer increased frequencies on all three routes and will then fly to Stuttgart and Düsseldorf twice-daily Monday through Friday, offering customers numerous onward connections.
