On Monday (June 21, 2021), Austrian Airlines announced an expansion of their COVID-19 travel insurance offerings with a new Travel Care Basic option through a partnership with AXA Partners. The new Travel Care Basic package offers quick access to German and English speaking doctors who will provide initial information on medical questions worldwide. The policy also covers COVID-19 related medical costs or treatment abroad, repatriation, travel liability and accident insurance. If a customer is required to quarantine or subject to lockdown while traveling abroad, the policy will cover accommodations for up to 14 nights at up to €175/night. Austrian Airlines’ guests can add the coverage for only €14.99 per trip when booking travel directly on the airline’s website.

The new insurance option complements existing packages from AIG Europe S.A. including Travel Care and Travel Care Plus. Travel Care includes compensation for destination quarantine or travel cancellation, while Travel Care Plus also covers medical costs in the event of a COVID-19 illness, including emergency return transport if required. Additionally, Austrian Airlines is offering a flexible and free rebooking through July 2021. With booking flexibility and numerous insurance options, Austrians can now plan their long-awaited summer holidays with confidence.
