On Thursday (August 4, 2022), American Airlines published an update on their multi-year project for the redesign of Admirals Club lounges across the U.S. This fall, guests will first experience the new look and design at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), signaling the start of a reimagined premium Admirals Club experience. The unique new vision was created for American by Chicago-based DMAC Architecture & Designs. As guests enter the club, they will be welcomed by signature brand elements, accompanied by references from local landscapes and landmarks, with the story of each host city creating a sense of place. Through selective design elements that set a tone of calm and familiarity, visitors will experience a sense of wellness. Sustainability is also included in the new design with branded elements made of renewable American walnut in each lounge.

In Thursday’s announcment, American Airlines’ Managing Director of Premium Customer Experience & Onboard Products, Clarissa Sebastian, said,

“The new Admirals Club interior design is inspired by our customers, who tell us that their favorite aspect of visiting our lounges is feeling like they’re ‘coming home.’ This design is the culmination of a partnership between American and an award-winning architectural firm well known for their designs in the hospitality space. Each element was thoughtfully developed to create an environment of calm, with natural woods and open spaces, so our customers can relax and feel their best as they prepare for their flight.”

Also commenting on the design collaboration, DMAC Architecture and Interiors’ Founder and Principal, Dwayne MacEwen, added,

“Our focus in working with American is to create a meaningful environment for guests to experience the airline’s inspirational brand and airport lounge in a fresh, new way. Lounges will include a collection of thoughtfully designed memorable spaces, with opportunities for guests to engage, retreat and rejuvenate. The new design of the Admirals Club lounges offers a bespoke hospitality experience in which every detail is curated for guests to feel cared for at each touch point during their visit.”

Admirals Club lounges currently being renovated include Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), and Denver International Airport (DEN), each of which will feature the refreshed design. American Airlines’ customers can access the Admirals Club lounge through their itinerary, select co-branded credit cards, or membership, which may be discounted based on AAdvantage® status.
