On Tuesday (July 6, 2021), American Airlines announced an expansion of their winter 2021/22 schedule from Miami International Airport (MIA) with service to Chetumal, Mexico (CTM) and San Andres Island, Colombia (ADZ). Flights to Chetumal will be offered twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays from December 1st, while service to San Andras Island will be offered on the same days starting December 4, 2021. American’s domestic route expansion from Miami will include daily seasonal service to Salt Lake City (SLC) and seasonal Saturday service to Albany, New York (ALB), Burlington, Vermont (BTV), Madison, Wisconsin (MSN), Syracuse, New York (SYR) and Tulsa, Oklahoma (TUL).

In today’s route announcement, American Airlines’ Vice President of MIA Hub Operations, Juan Carlos Liscano, said,

“With more than 30 years of service, American is and will always be Miami’s hometown airline, and we are proud to strengthen our footprint at our MIA hub later this year. New service to Tel Aviv, Paramaribo, Chetumal and San Andres, and more domestic flying this winter, are a testament of our commitment to the economic development of our community as it continues to grow and diversify.”

Miami International Airport’s Interim Director, Ralph Cutie, added,

“I deeply appreciate the commitment by American Airlines to further expand its presence in Miami-Dade County with even more routes and increased flights coming soon to Miami International Airport. Our County’s tourism industry has almost fully returned to pre-pandemic levels, and that is largely due to American Airlines’ unwavering service to our community as our busiest airline partner.”

In addition to the new routes, American Airlines will increase to year-round their current daily seasonal service between Miami and Oklahoma City (OKC). Seasonal service to Fayetteville, Arkansas (XNA) and Milwaukee (MKE) will return on Saturdays between November 6, 2021 and April 2, 2022. American Airlines has also reopened their Admirals Club lounges in MIA and other domestic locations. Starting in September, American’s Flagship Lounge and Flagship First Dining in MIA will also reopen for eligible guests.
