On Friday (December 9, 2022), American Airlines announced an expansion of their Northeast Alliance (NEA) with JetBlue with the addition of 10 new direct routes from New York-LaGuardia (LGA), New York-Newark (EWR) and Boston Logan International (BOS) airports. For summer 2023, the NEA will offer nearly 300 daily departures from New York-JFK, serving 49 of the top 50 global markets. Across all three major New York airports, the NEA will offer over 500 daily departures, along with 200 daily departures from Boston. To date, the NEA has resulted in around 50 new routes out of JFK, LGA, EWR and BOS, including 17 international routes, as well as increased frequencies on more than 130 existing routes.

In Friday’s announcement, American Airlines’ Vice President of Global Alliances and Partnerships, Anmol Bhargava, said,

“Giving customers more choices for travel is a critical part of the Northeast Alliance. We are pleased that with our partner, JetBlue, we will now serve 45 of the top 50 domestic markets from LGA.”

Also commenting on the NEA expansion, JetBlue’s Vice President of Northeast Alliance, Dave Fintzen, said,

“The Northeast Alliance is bringing more of JetBlue’s low fares and great service to more customers. As we continue to enhance the Northeast Alliance and link more destinations with new nonstop choices, customers finally have a compelling alternative to the carriers that have dominated the market for too long.”

In spring 2023, American will also expand flights between LGA and Asheville, North Carolina (AVL) to year-round service, and add a frequency between BOS and Louisville, Kentucky (SDF).

For spring 2023, JetBlue will also introduce direct service between LGA and Atlanta, Georgia (ATL), Hyannis, Massachusetts (HYA), Nassau, Bahamas (NAS) and Bermuda (BDA). During summer 2023, JetBlue will also introduce their premium Mint® product on their route between EWR and Aruba (AUA), and will also reintroduce service between EWR and Montego, Bay Jamaica (MBJ). Additionally, JetBlue will expand their offer to Canada with daily seasonal service between Boston and Vancouver (YVR), complementing the carrier’s existing service between New York and Vancouver.
