American Airlines AAdvantage® loyalty program is introducing elite choice rewards, making qualifying for Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum more rewarding for 2021. Elite choice rewards will allow members to choose the reward they value most.
On Thursday (December 10, 2020) American Airlines’ AAdvantage program revealed elite choice rewards, making qualifying for Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum even more rewarding for 2021. Elite choice allows members to choose the reward they value most such as a systemwide upgrade, an Admirals Club® One-Day Pass or bonus AAdvantage miles. When members qualify for Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum tiers in 2021, they will receive an invitation allowing them to select their preferred reward. Rewards can also be selected under the ‘Gifts and Rewards’ section of their AAdvantage account. In Thursday’s announcement, American Airlines’ AAdvantage President, Rick Elieson, said,
“Our Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members spend almost as much time in the air as they do on the ground. We’re extremely grateful American is their airline of choice and providing more flexibility with elite choice rewards is another way we’re showing our appreciation for the time they spend with us.”
Additionally, starting in early 2021, Platinum Pro members will receive oneworld Emerald status and will enjoy additional perks including first class priority check-in, first and business class lounge access, expedited security screening, priority for waitlists, priority boarding and baggage handling. American announced earlier this year that every AAdvantage member would have a head start on earning elite status for 2021 with three extra months for qualification. The carrier has also waived the elite dollar qualifying requirement for Gold, Platinum and Platinum Pro AAdvantage credit card holders if they spend $30,000 on qualifying purchases. American has further eliminated service charges when members book reward tickets through Reservations, as well as the fee to have miles redeposited if travel plans change. Mileage expiration has been paused through June 30, 2021.
American Airlines’ purpose is to “care for people on life’s journey.” Shares in the American Airlines Group, Inc., trade on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol AAL and the company’s stock is included in the S&P 500.
