On Wednesday (March 4, 2020), Las Vegas-based Allegiant Travel announced that they will open their 21st aircraft base at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport in Concord, North Carolina on October 7, 2020. The carrier will invest $50 million in the new base, which will house two Airbus A320 Family aircraft and create at least 66 high-wage jobs. Close in proximity to the bustling city of Charlotte, Concord is one of the fastest-growing cities in America and home to top North Carolina tourist destinations such as NASCAR’s Charlotte Motor Speedway and Concord Mills. Concord, which is the largest city in Cabarrus County (population: 94,000), offers a vibrant historic downtown as well as a variety of entertainment and leisure options. In Wednesday’s announcement, Allegiant’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Keith Hansen said,

“We’re excited about making Concord a permanent base, and further establishing Allegiant as a hometown airline for this high-performance city. With a growing and diverse population seeking affordable vacation travel, and as a regional destination for race enthusiasts, arts fans and more, Concord is an ideal location for an Allegiant base. Having locally-based operations will mean opportunities for expanded hours, as well as more – and more frequent – flight offerings for residents and visitors alike.”

Allegiant has operated from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) since 2013 and currently offers nonstop service to seven destinations including New Orleans and premier Florida vacation hotspots such as Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando-Sanford, Palm Beach, Punta Gorda and St. Petersburg-Clearwater. Since inaugurating service at the airport, Allegiant has carried over a million passengers from Concord-Padgett, including 353,000 customers in 2019.

Founded in 1999, Allegiant links passengers from small to medium cities to world-class leisure destinations with all non-stop flights and industry-low average fares. The company operates 450 routes nationwide and offers base airfares that are often half the price of a typical roundtrip ticket. The company’s Sunseeker Resorts subsidiary is currently building a major resort in Port Charlotte, in Southwest Florida.
