Airbus has launched ‘The Xtra Large Bizjet’ called the ACJ TwoTwenty, a corporate version of the company’s A220. The new jet offers a flexible cabin catalog to meet the needs of the heavy and long-haul business jet users.
On Tuesday (October 6, 2020), Airbus announced the launch of their new ACJ TwoTwenty business jet, a corporate version of the A220. The aircraft is designed to fill a whole new ‘Xtra Large Bizjet’ market segment and includes a flexible cabin catalog, addressing the needs of heavy and long-haul users and operators. The ACJ TwoTwenty will occupy the same parking space as competing business jets while providing three-times more cabin space and a third less operating costs. The aircraft is a ‘clean-sheet’ design based on the Airbus A220-100 and will feature advanced materials, state-of-the-art technologies, twice the connectivity, Wi-Fi, electro-chromatic windows and LED lighting. In Tuesday’s announcement, Airbus ACJ’s President, Benoit Defforge, said,
“We are proud to extend the ACJ product Family with the launch of ACJ TwoTwenty. The aircraft combines intercontinental range, unmatched economics and unrivalled reliability. Based on its compelling market appeal, we see promising demand for this aircraft in the growing business jet market.”
The ACJ TwoTwenty will have a range of up to 5,600 nm (10,500 km) over 12 flight hours, with the ability to directly connect city pairs such as London and Los Angeles, Moscow and Jakarta, Tokyo and Dubai or Beijing and Melbourne. Indianapolis, Indiana (US) based Comlux, with its ACJ-approved completion center has been selected as the exclusive partner to outfit the cabins of the first 15 aircraft. The aircraft features 73m2/785 ft2 of floor space over six wide VIP living areas, allowing up to 18 passengers to work, share, dine and relax.
In a separate announcement on Tuesday, Airbus announced that they have received orders for six ACJ TwoTwenty’s with two from Comlux and four more from undisclosed customers. Service entry for Comlux Aviation’s first two aircraft is targeted for early 2023. Commenting on the launch order for the aircraft, Comlux Executive Chairman & CEO, Richard Gaona, said,
“We are proud to be the launch customer of the Airbus’ newest family member, the ACJ TwoTwenty and the selected partner to outfit the cabin in our completion center in Indianapolis. We have worked jointly with ACJ and shared our long experience in operating and completing all types of aircraft, to allow the new Bizjet to offer more comfort and the latest cabin innovations available in the industry. Thanks to the unique combination of intercontinental range, comfort, extra space and second-to-none economics, we are convinced the aircraft will be a winner in the business aviation market.”
